Brunei Darussalam will be sending a men’s and women’s teams to participate in the Johor International Petanque Men’s and Women’s Open 2022 at Tampoi Utama and Impian Emas in Johor Bahru later this month.
The men’s team comprises Haji Mohd Nawawi bin Haji Nauhi, Haji Mohamad Sahmedeyn bin Haji Kahar, Abdul Afiq bin Abdul Aziz, Masli bin Haji Mohd Said, Wirna bin Haji Mohammed Yassin, Mazlan Haji Yahya, Md Amir bin Haji Sapar and Abdul Manaff Didi bin Ahdi Badaruddin.
Meanwhile, the women’s players include Hajah Norhaini Haji Dollah, Surtini Haji Abidin, Norhani Haji Juna and Mulsinah Haji Amran as well as backup players Norhafilah Haji Arun and Raihani Haji Md Noor.
The Johor meet will mark the country’s resumption in competitive action since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Some 900 participants from 15 countries including South Korea, Denmark, Thailand, France, Australia, Singapore, Zambia and New Macedonia are expected.
Deputy Johor State Secretary (Sports, Youth and Volunteers) Datuk On Jabbar said that the event has been entered in the International Federation of Petanque (FIPJP) as an annual event.
Brunei Darussalam Petanque Federation (BDPF) President Haji Mohamad bin Panglima Asgar Dato Paduka Haji Abdullah joined the national athletes for a photo session at the Petanque Court of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex on Wednesday.
The national teams will depart the country on August 23.
