The Brunei populace logged in one billion steps in just eight days, three hours and 41 minutes during the 1 Billion Steps Together campaign with participation from over 43,000 people.
This milestone was achieved in a much shorter time than the initial expectation of one month.
These comments were made by Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar during a press conference on Monday.
He said, “Alhamdulillah, logging in one billion steps in just eight days is an achievement. This shows that the Brunei people are interested in the initiative to increase physical activities.”
“This is just a beginning as we were unsure how many steps we can achieve. There are over 400,000 people registered with BruHealth app and only 43,000 people joined the initiative.
We will see how many steps are taken by the end of the month and we can set the next target.
“We want to see sustained physical activities over the next few months to safeguard our health.”
The prize presentation for the 20 participants with the highest step count will be held in early September.
“With the success of 1 Billion Steps Together, there’s plans for other BN on the Move activities that will be announced when ready for implementation.
“In the meantime, let us continue to stay active and do sports and other leisure activities to ensure we and our families are in good health,” said the minister.
Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham also urged those yet to join BN on the Move initiative to register on the BruHealth app.
