Prosecutors on Wednesday levelled charges against a 44-year-old local man of committing statutory rape against a 13-year-old girl.
The man, whose identity is withheld to protect the victim, is alleged to have raped the victim between January and August. A second count alleges him of having raped the victim at a house on August 17 or 18. Each charge carries penalties of imprisonment ranging from 10 to 30 years, with 12 or more canings.
Acting Senior Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati binti Haji Abdul Hamid did not record the defendant’s plea to make way for investigations to be completed.
The court adjourned the case to September 7 while the defendant is in remand.
DPP Rozaimah binti Abdul Rahman prosecuted the case.
