From July to mid August 2022, nine warning notices and seven compounds amounting to BND4,100 were issued by the Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (DEPS) under the Ministry of Finance and Economy for violating the Price Control Act, Chapter 142 and regulations under it.

The offences were found during daily routine inspections throughout the country by the Consumer Affairs Department resulting in the issuance of compound fines.

Some premises were found selling products above the maximum price set by the DEPS, and displaying confusing price tags and being inconsistent with the prices in the payment counter system, according to the department.

Businesses are advised to comply with the Price Control Act, Chapter 142 and to be transparent and ethical by ensuring price-controlled items are not sold above the approved maximum prices and prices of goods are clearly displayed at the premises.

Shoppers are advised to exercise their rights to report any misleading, unethical and inappropriate practices among retailers, and use the PenggunaBijak app to compare prices.
