Students and members of the higher education institutions (HEIs) in the Sultanate will be competing for the prestigious Chancellor’s Trophy 2022 following its launch by Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) at its Multipurpose Hall on Thursday.
Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad attended as the guest of honour.
The competition was consented by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Chancellor of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), UTB, Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) and Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPUSB), hence the name given – Chancellor’s Trophy.
Also present during the event was Vice-Chancellor of UTB Datin Paduka Professor Dr Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, Vice-Chancellor of UBD Dr Hazri bin Haji Kifle, Rector of UNISSA Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal, and Ra’es of KUPU SB Dr Haji Adanan bin Haji Basar.
Chairman of the Chancellor’s Trophy 2022 Ummi Salamah binti Haji Mohamad Firdaus said, “The Chancellor’s Trophy is organised by student representative council (MPP) of all four universities, led by the MPP UTB session 2022/2023 targetting several sports, competitions and games that cover the aspect of religious, sport, culture (hadrah, gulingtangan and traditional dance), intellectual competition (debates and pidato) and e-sport.
“The competition has already been divided within each university involved; it will be organised by the MPP in the hope that the competition will become a catalyst for the development of sports, competitions and games between local universities and HEIs.
“This is to achieve the objective of providing a platform for the MPP and the local HEIs to work together in implementing and enriching the competition as well as encouraging and foster interaction, understanding and goodwill among students.”
