More students take up Hengyi scholarships (29.09.2022)

Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd signed 180 students into its scholarship programmes with universities in a ceremony on Thursday.

 

Thirty-four students were awarded the Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD)-Zhejiang University (ZJU) Joint Scholarship, which is a four-year degree course in chemical and process engineering.

 

Students will spend two years of academic studies at UBD, 1.5 years of studies at ZJU, and a six-month internship at Hengyi Industries. To date, 161 students have been awarded the UBD-ZJU Joint Scholarship.

 

Meanwhile, 74 students were awarded the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE)-Lanzhou Petrochemical University of Vocational Technology (LPUVT) Joint-Scholarship, which is a three-year refinery operator programme.

 

Students will spend a year of studies at the IBTE Jefri Bolkiah Campus, a year at LPUVT and a year of on-the-job-training with Hengyi Industries at Pulau Muara Besar.

 

Around 145 students have been awarded the programme since its inception in 2018.

 

Minister of Education Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, the guest of honour, witnessed the signings.

 

Ambassador of China to Brunei Darussalam Yu Hong was also present at the event.

 

Deputy CEO of Hengyi Industries Xu Ye said the scholarship scheme displays Hengyi’s commitment to not only invest in Brunei but also invest in the development of local talents in technology and the oil and gas industry. He said 127 scholars from both IBTE and UBD have completed their studies and are now with Hengyi, working in various roles.

 

He said Hengyi is committed in ensuring its local workforce is equipped with the fundamental trainings required to upgrade and improve their competency level.

 

During the event, the company also donated BND50,000 to Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam, presented by the Hengyi Industries deputy CEO to Executive Trustee of Pusat Ehsan Pengiran Datin Hajah Noraini binti Pengiran Dipa Negara Laila Diraja Pengiran Haji Abdul Momin.

 

The donation will go to the development of Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam School, which will accommodate 200 special needs individuals with quality education.
