The Syariah Affairs Department at the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) conducted an inspection following public complaints of Manicare brand’s dry body brush made of boar bristles and sold openly.

The department contacted manufacturer, McPherson’s Consumer Products Pty Ltd from Australia, which confirmed that the brush are made using boar bristles.

Following the findings, the department ordered businesses to segregate the product and removed from sale.

Businesses are also ordered to remove similar products from shelves.

The MoRA advised retailers, suppliers and importers of consumer products to be cautious of imported items for public sale.

They should ensure that halal and non-halal products are not sold together to safeguard the interests of Muslims in the country.

The ministry thanked the public for the tip-off and urged those lodging complaints or sharing information on non-halal products being sold openly to contact 7166222 or Halal Food Control Division offices.
