The Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday ordered a 38-year-old local woman to settle a BND1,000 fine after she pleaded guilty to stealing plants from a residential compound.
Nursyahidah binti Haji Mohamad would have to serve a month’s jail in default of payment of the fine.
Prosecutor Nur Zahidah Farhanah binti Abdul Aziz revealed in court that the defendant was on her way to Meragang Beach at 1am on September 7 with a passenger in her car.
They drove around RPN Kampong Meragang when the defendant noticed potted plants at a house on Jalan Kamangsi.
The defendant then parked and loaded three juniper plants in pots into her car and left.
The owner realising that the plants were missing checked the CCTV and filed a police report leading to the defendant’s arrest.
Investigations revealed that the defendant had placed two plants in her backyard and one in her toilet.
The plants are worth over BND100.
Senior Magistrate Pengiran Hazirah binti Pengiran Haji Mohd Yusof presided over the case.
