The Magistrate’s Court ordered a permanent pesident man to settle a BND8,100 fine for possessing smuggled alcoholic beverages on Thursday.
Teng Chai Heng, 59, would have to serve eight months’ jail in default of payment. Acting Senior Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati binti Haji Abdul Hamid was informed by the Customs prosecutor that the defendant was found keeping 48 bottles of various types of liquor at a house in Jalan Tengah, Kuala Belait when Customs Preventive officers conducted an inspection at 2.30pm on February 11, 2021.
The court ordered the liquor to be destroyed.
