A recent integrated operation targetting 46 business premises in Gadong led to the discovery that eight local workers had not been registered with the Employees Trust Fund (TAP) and Supplemental Contributory Pension (SCP) schemes.

TAP enforcement officers conducted the operation with the assistance of personnel from the Municipal Department, Fire and Rescue Department, Town and Country Planning Department, Land Transport Department and Weights and Measures Unit at the Ministry of Finance and Economy.

Meanwhile, employers who failed to produce the required documents were instructed to head to the TAP office for further action, and to ensure their employees are registered.

Employers are reminded to fulfil their responsibility of registering and paying the contributions of employees to both schemes.

Permanent workers, temporary workers, contract workers, daily wage workers and workers in the probationary period (who are citizens or permanent residents of Brunei Darussalam) meeting the conditions must be registered and contribute to the TAP and SCP Schemes.

Under Section 26 of the Employee Trust Act, upon conviction, the employer may be fined no less than BND3,000 for the first offence and no more than BND10,000 for the second and subsequent offences.
