Brunei Darussalam obstacle course racing specialist Zulkernean bin Haji Tohara delivered one of the finest performances in the country’s sporting history after being ranked first for his age group in the 2022 Spartan Southeast Asia (SEA) Regional Series.

The local competitor topped the final leaderboard after accumulating an overhaul haul of 2470.4 points following the end of the four-race series in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam last weekend.

Zulkernean, who has been an active performer in representing the country in the regional stage, struck the gold medal in the Spartan Sprint Vietnam in the 50-54 years age group.

He also enjoyed podium finishes with both bronze in Kuching, Malaysia and Chiang Mai, Thailand to stay in firm contention of the coveted SEA Regional Series title. The Bruneian has also helped guide the journeys of fellow local Spartans in the country, as well as gaining experience in countless international races.

The Spartan SEA Regional Series is a point-based competition covering four epic races across Southeast Asia. The first leg commenced with the Super 10k event (25 obstacles) in Sarawak last June before making a stop in Chiang Mai with the Super event last August.

The third leg saw the Philippines playing host in Cavite with the Beast 21k (30 obstacles) event last September, culminating with Ho Chi Minh City at the end of the series.

Meanwhile, Benjamin Jr Belamirno finished runners-up in the SEA Regional Series Age Group for 50-54 years with 1,499.7 points, followed by Paul Van Slyke in third place with 1,000 points.
