Enforcement officers from the Halal Food Control Division at the Syariah Affairs Department, Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) recently conducted an operation targetting a supermarket selling locally made ‘Dapur Nenek Mama’ products, unlawfully carrying the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) halal label.

The products stored in the supermarket chiller included 13 bottles of sambal katok, 13 bottles of sambal penyet, 14 bottles of sambal ijo, five bottles of peri-peri sauce, 13 bottles of lemon coriander sauce and eight bottles of honey BBQ sauce.

The officers also found 10 packets of ayam rempah, 10 packets of roasted whole chicken, 10 packets of roasted wings, 10 packets of BBQ chicken wings and 10 packets of chicken wings rempah.

All items falsely carrying the halal label were seized.

The MoRA reminded companies and retailers not to use the MUIB halal label without approval as it contravenes Section 12 (3) (a) Halal Certificate and Halal Label Order 2005, carrying a penalty not exceeding BND8,000 or imprisonment not exceeding two years or both.

Personnel from the Halal Food Control Division along with other enforcement agencies will intensify operations to ensure the law and regulations of Brunei Darussalam are adhered to.

The MoRA also expressed gratitude for the public tip-off.

Related complaints and information can be channelled to the Halal Food Control Division at hotline 7166222 or by contacting any of its offices in each district.
