Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad as the guest of honour flagged off the Brunei History Race Challenge 2021 at the Brunei History Centre’s building on Sunday.
The challenge saw 48 teams made up of 144 participants.
The event is held annually. This year marked the second edition and was organised by the Brunei History Centre in collaboration with Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD).
The event aims to support and promote Bandar Seri Begawan through the country’s historical monuments and landmarks.
It also aims to raise awareness, understanding and appreciation particularly among the youth on the importance of history and cultural heritage. Also on the agenda is the promotion of a healthy lifestyle with information and knowledge, encouraging creativity and adopting, appreciating and preserving the Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) values.
The day featured aerobics, acoustic performances, Teqball and Beyblade competitions, a classic and vintage bicycle and Volkswagen showcase as well as a lucky draw were held.
Permanent Secretary (Culture) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) Pengiran Haji Mohd Hasnan bin Pengiran Haji Ali Hassan, Permanent Secretary (Community) at the MCYS Hajah Nor Ashikin binti Haji Johari and Permanent Secretary (Youth) at the MCYS Haji Zakaria bin Haji Serudin as well as Deputy Permanent Secretary (Culture) at the MCYS Dr Siti Norkhalbi binti Haji Wahsalfelah and Principal of Brunei History Centre Dr Haji Muhammad Hadi bin Haji Muhammad Melayong were also present.
Brunei History Race Challenge, introduced in 2019, received the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) in Tunisia on December 17, 2019.
