Children aged six months to four years old do not need to receive the COVID-19 vaccination yet, especially given that the Sultanate has a high COVID-19 vaccination coverage, according to the assessment made by the National COVID-19 Vaccine Technical Committee.

This was said by Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar at the press conference on Monday in response to a question on vaccinating children aged six months to four years.

“Brunei Darussalam’s National COVID-19 Vaccine Technical Committee carries out stringent scientific assessment on the safety and efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccine and found that children in that age range have a lower risk of severe complications from the virus,” the minister said.

He added that the committee found that there are fewer benefits for administering the COVID-19 vaccine to very young children, as compared to those aged five years and above.

Meanwhile, on the increasing trend of COVID-19 fatalities, with three fatalities last week and one on Monday, Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham said, “Two COVID-19 fatalities last week were not due to COVID-19 but other health factors, while one was COVID-related. The fatality today was also not due to the virus.”
