It is highly recommended for children aged 12 to 17 to get boosted, although not mandatory, said Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar at the daily press conference yesterday. “Just like adults, the immunity provided from the two doses of the vaccine will decline over time,” he added.
The minister said despite the recent decline in the number of positive cases in the Sultanate, the Omicron variant is still actively spreading.
“Booster shots will aid in preventing the risk of experiencing serious symptoms caused by the COVID-19 virus,” he added.
Slots for the children can only be booked three months after the second dose.
Bookings can be done through the BruHealth app starting noon on April 15. The Sultanate will begin administering COVID-19 booster shots to children aged 12-17 on April 16.
