A Malaysian man was sentenced to 18 months’ jail with three whippings by the Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday after he pleaded guilty to immigration charges.
Samsul bin Jenin, 34, had been barred from entering Brunei for a number of offences earlier when he was arrested by immigration enforcement officers on June 5 at a house in Kampong Peramu.
Inspections led to the discovery of the defendant’s status of having been barred, and entering and residing in the country without a valid pass.
