His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council (BDNOC) expressed concern over the recent revelation of a national badminton athlete testing positive for a banned substance, an incident that has cast a shadow on the nation’s reputation and resulted in the withdrawal of all the team’s medals.
His Royal Highness delivered the sabda during the national flag-handing over ceremony to the Brunei contingent competing in the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
His Royal Highness also empathised with the innocent teammates who are now facing consequences for a wrongdoing they were not involved in, stating, “It’s a pity that those who are not at fault are forced to receive punishment as the whole team.”
