There has been a decrease in the number of people found driving under the influence (DUI), said Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, citing data from the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) from 2019 to 2023.

 

He said in 2023, there were three cases of driving under the influence, compared to five in 2022, two in 2021, eight in 2020 and 14 in 2019, adding that drivers caught driving while being affected by alcohol or drugs for the first time face a BND10,000 fine and two-year jail term, while for subsequent offence, a BND20,000 fine and four-year jail term.
