Bruneian athlete Azmi@Mohammed Luqman bin Abd Hadzid secured second place at the Xterra Borneo Sarawak triathlon recently, demonstrating grit and determination on one of the sport’s most challenging off-road courses.
The triathlon, part of the globally recognised Xterra series, featured a 1.5-kilometre open-water swim, a demanding mountain biking segment, and a trail run through technical terrain in Sarawak. The event attracted seasoned competitors from across the region.
“It was one of the toughest races I’ve ever done. But everything clicked – the training, the pacing, the mindset. I just focused on one discipline at a time and kept pushing,” said Azmi@Mohammed Luqman following the event.
He led the pack after the swim and maintained a competitive edge through the mountain biking stage, which required navigation through steep climbs and tight switchbacks.
