Pantai Berakas Primary School, RBAF danced their way to the championship with a 87.7 per cent score in the final of Dendang Tari Melayu Brunei Competition for Primary Schools 2025 at Digadong Hall, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) on Wednesday.

Nor Ruzanna Awang Ramli of Pantai Berakas Primary School said, “Syukur Alhamdulillah, we managed to snatch first place today. It was a huge surprise and we are very happy with the result.”

On the preparation, she shared, “After we received news that we were heading to the final, we trained for around a month. We chose to perform Joget Baju Putih because our students were confident the team would perform the dance well.”

Meanwhile, Pengiran Anak Puteri Besar Primary School, Kampong Sungai Kebun won second place after scoring 81.67 per cent, and Tungku Primary School was third with a score of 78.83 per cent.

Fourth place went to Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Primary School with a score of 76.33 per cent, while Lambak Kanan Jalan 49 Primary School finished at fifth place with a score of 74.83 per cent.

Deputy Permanent Secretary (Culture) at the MCYS Dr Siti Norkhalbi binti Haji Wahsalfelah, the guest of honour, presented prizes and certificates to the participants.

Organised by the Ministry of Education (MoE), the competition aimed to encourage and attract students’ interest in recognising and learning the dance movements of Brunei traditional dances, cultivating love for the Sultanate’s heritage arts, while also providing students with the opportunity to creatively perform. The competition, organised for the first time by the Department of Co-Curriculum Education at the MoE through the Arts and Creativity Division, combined traditional singing and dance elements through stage performances.
