Typhoon ‘RAGASA’ is expected to indirectly influence the weather in Brunei Darussalam with active weather conditions forecast until Friday, the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD) stated yesterday.

As of 11am yesterday, Typhoon RAGASA was observed approximately 1,790 kilometres (km) away from the Sultanate with it forecast to move westward. BDMD said occasional heavy and gusty showers or thundershowers are expected to affect several areas of the country, with wind gust of up to 55km per hour in or near heavy showers.

Brunei Darussalam is currently experiencing the southwest monsoon, which typically persists until the end of September.

Meanwhile, over Brunei waters, sea conditions are generally slight to moderate, with wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 1.2 metres.

The public is advised to take precautionary measures in view of the forecasted active weather conditions. There is a risk of fallen trees, and roofs being blown-off during gusty showers. Flash flood, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas as well as near river banks, are also possible during continuous heavy rain and at high tide.
