DPMM FC’s winless streak in the Malaysian Super League continued following a 4-0 defeat to Kuala Lumpur City FC at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium on Monday night.
DPMM FC played without influential players in the starting line up with Macedonian goalkeeper Kristijan Naumovski and winger Miguel Olivier out injured.
Oliviera had a cameo in the second half but it was not enough to rally the team.
DPMM FC nearly got an early goal when Jordan Murray’s effort was saved by KL City FC goalkeeper Quincy Julian Kammeraad in the second minute.
Eight minutes later, DPMM FC’s second goalkeeper Muhammad Haimie Abdullah Nyaring dived to keep KL City’s Muhammad Safawi Rasid’s effort from close range.
However, in 25th minute, DPMM FC conceded a costly own goal from Pengiran Yura Indera Putera when his back pass was misjudged and the ball rolled into the net for KL City to take the lead.
After the interval, the visiting team dominated the match and opened up spaces to create several chances.
Victor Ruiz Abril capitalised on a good build-up to hit a powerful strike against the home team.
KL City’s in-form player Muhammad Safawi then put the match out of reach for DPMM FC when he scored two goals in the 64th and 85th minutes.
The Brunei-based team currently sit at the bottom of the league with only a point and most goals conceded. Their next match will be another home match against Kelantan the Real Warriors FC on September 26. – JAMES KON
