34 arrested in Kampong Sungai Tilong gambling raid

The Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) has dismantled an alleged gambling operation in Kampong Sungai Tilong, detaining 34 suspects and seizing over BND43,000 in cash during a late-night raid on May 31.

The operation, carried out at around 10.30pm, was conducted by the Gambling Suppression and Vice Prevention Investigation Unit under the Criminal Investigation Department, led by its acting head together with several officers.

Police said the suspected gambling activities involved games known as “Pai Gou” and “Lami” conducted at a residential premises in the area.

A total of 34 individuals were arrested in the operation, comprising 18 men and 16 women aged between 32 and 84. The suspects include both local and foreign nationals of Malay and Chinese ethnicity.

Authorities also seized BND43,192.77 in cash believed to be linked to the illegal gambling activities.

All suspects and seized items have been taken to Gambling Suppression and Vice Prevention Investigation Unit for further investigation.

The case is being investigated under the Common Gaming Houses Act (Chapter 28), which provides for penalties against individuals found to be operating, managing or present at premises used for gambling activities.

RBPF said it will continue to intensify enforcement efforts against illegal gambling activities to ensure public safety, peace and wellbeing.

The public is also urged to provide information on criminal activities to assist ongoing enforcement and prevention efforts.
