The Enforcement Section of the Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department has ordered the immediate closure of a beauty and health establishment in Kampong Serusop after it was found operating without a valid licence.
In a statement issued on Monday, the department said an inspection carried out on June 13 found the premises conducting business despite its licence having expired for 64 days.
Operating a business without a valid licence is an offence under Section 20 of the Beauty and Health Establishment Licensing Act 241.
Under the Act, any person who operates a beauty and health establishment without a valid licence may face a fine not exceeding BND10,000. For continuing offences, an additional fine of up to BND100 may be imposed for each day the offence continues.
Following the discovery, enforcement officers carried out immediate closure action, while the owner and operator of the premises were instructed to attend the department’s office for further investigation.
The Enforcement Section reminded all beauty and health establishment operators to comply with existing regulations and laws.
Operators were also urged to maintain personal hygiene, ensure cleanliness of equipment and tools, and make certain that products and materials used for beauty and health services are safe for customers.
