The awarding of Government Overseas Scholarships and the Government Education Loan Assistance Scheme (SBPP) represents a strategic investment in the development of the nation’s human capital.

It reflects the continued commitment of the Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in ensuring that Brunei continues to produce a generation that is knowledgeable, highly skilled, and capable of competing at the international level.

The importance of Government Overseas Scholarships and the SBPP was highlighted by Acting Director of the Department of Scholarship Management Rosimah Sumainah binti Haji Matassim in her welcoming remarks at the Outstanding Graduates Award Ceremony 2026 at Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah yesterday.

She also recalled the titah of His Majesty during a get-together ceremony with Bruneian students and citizens in the United Kingdom and Ireland in 2019, where His Majesty emphasised the importance of education in producing a workforce that is knowledgeable, competent, and possesses the values of trustworthiness and integrity.

This clearly demonstrates that educational success should not be measured solely by academic achievement, but also by the development of individuals with strong character, noble values, and a readiness to contribute to the development of the nation.

The acting director of the Department of Scholarship Management said the awards presented are not only a recognition of the academic excellence of the graduates, but also an acknowledgement of the investment of the nation in developing high-quality human capital.

She shared that the success of the graduates is a proud achievement which comes with great trust and responsibility.

As recipients of Government Scholarships and the SBPP, she noted that the graduates have been given the opportunity to gain knowledge, experience and expertise at higher education institutions abroad, making it essential that such knowledge and experience be translated into meaningful contributions to society and the nation. She added that as His Majesty has consistently emphasised, the excellence of a person is not defined solely by knowledge, but also by values such as integrity, discipline, responsibility, resilience, and a willingness to serve religion, the nation, and the country.
