The highlight of the 36th Brunei Darussalam Teacher’s Day 2026 Celebration yesterday was the presentation of prestigious awards, namely the Meritorious Teacher Award, the Pioneering Educator Legacy Award, the Excellent Teacher Award, and the Teacher’s Day Special Mention Award.

At the celebration, four recipients for the Meritorious Teacher Award, two for the Pioneering Educator Legacy Award, nine for the Excellent Teacher Award, and 28 for the Teacher’s Day Special Mention Award received their honours from His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji ‘Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

Recipients of the Meritorious Teacher Award were Dato Paduka Dr Haji Ismail bin Haji Duraman, Haji Jamal bin Haji Kahar, Hajah Sarbanun binti Junit, and Haji Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Hassan. They each received a Certificate of Appreciation, BND12,000 cash, a souvenir, and free medical facilities, including all costs for first-class ward accommodation at government hospitals across the country.

Meanwhile, the two recipients of the Pioneering Educator Legacy Award were Haji Abd Razak bin Bongsu and Haji Hussain bin Mahari, who were each awarded a Certificate of Appreciation, BND6,000 cash, a souvenir, and free medical facilities, including all costs for first-class ward accommodation at government hospitals nationwide.

The nine recipients of the Excellent Teacher Award were presented with a Certificate of Appreciation, BND4,000 cash, and a souvenir, while the 28 Teacher’s Day Special Mention Award recipients each received a Certificate of Appreciation, BND1,000 cash, and a trophy. – Lyna Mohamad
