His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam will attend the 26th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) scheduled to be held in Kigali, Rwanda from June 24-25.
CHOGM 2022, which carries the theme ‘Delivering a Common Future: Connecting, Innovating, Transforming’ serves as a platform for setting agendas and decision making among Commonwealth member countries.
Commonwealth leaders are expected to select a candidate for the post of Secretary-General of the Commonwealth; as well as to discuss matters including governance and the rule of law; sustainable and inclusive development; post COVID-19 recovery; youth; technology and innovation; and global challenges.
The 26th CHOGM, which has been postponed for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will be hosted by Rwanda for the first time, having joined as the 54th and newest member of the Commonwealth since 2009. The last time Commonwealth leaders met for CHOGM was in London in April 2018.
