CfBT on Tuesday hosted a learning and development day at its head office in Kiarong where guests were invited to talks, workshops and celebrations as the education company formally opened its remodelled classrooms and testing facilities as well as awarded CELTA certificates to 2021 graduates.
Present to launch the new classrooms were Acting Director of Schools from the Ministry of Education Dr Sheikh Lukman bin Sheikh Abdul Hamid together with CfBT (Brunei) Directors Haji Sulaiman bin Haji Ahai and Nur Azizah binti Ahmad.
CfBT Brunei Country Manager Dominic Morley said, “CfBT has been recruiting, managing and deploying high-quality teachers and working closely with the Ministry of Education (MoE) to deliver learning development in Brunei Darussalam for over 38 years.”
He added, ”More than 200 expert English language teachers and dedicated education development managers are involved in the areas of learning development.”
Meanwhile, CfBT Head of Training and Learning Centre Rob Tunnell noted the trends and changes impacting the field of learning and development in recent years. He asked invited human resources leaders to share their thoughts during a workshop to give those working in the field an opportunity to explore solutions for those working in the Sultanate and elsewhere as the country and businesses navigate out of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, Dr Louise Pagden highlighted the challenges faced by the education system across the world in the last two years, drawing on her experiences of leading a large education department in a British university.
She spoke on the impact of school closures and the move to online learning, and discussed evidence-based approaches to addressing the challenges, illustrated by case studies of CfBT teachers who confronted learning loss through innovative and practical approaches.
The event concluded with an award ceremony for last year’s CELTA graduates – Ainan Husnaa, Chris Byrnes, Jessica Tieng, Tom Smith, Matt Venn, Ainan Syafeeqah, Fabienne Claude, Evan Cross and Nur Izzatul Ikmal.
Also in attendance were diplomats and representatives from the MoE.
