The fatalities recorded over the past weeks included both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals, said Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar during a press conference yesterday.
He made these remarks following concerns raised by the public and added that the vaccinated individuals pose health risks from non-communicable diseases (NCDs) while the unvaccinated were the elderly.
The minister advised those with NCDs or with low immunity to get their boosters.
“Most of those infected and suffering severe symptoms are those who received the booster last year,” the Minister of Health said.
On the concern over the number of cases breaching the 2,000 mark, the minister reminded the public to remain calm as the situation is still under control.
He also attributed the spike in cases to the current dominant variant Omicron BA.5.
