Residents were able to evacuate during a house fire without injuries on Saturday.
According to the Fire and Rescue Department (FRD), the upper floor of a double-storey house in Kampong Mata-Mata was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at the scene.
Nine firefighters from the Beribi Fire Station moved quickly to extinguish the fire and the situation was brought under control in 10 minutes, said the FRD.
The operation was led by ASO Azami bin Haji Bungsu, while Commanding Officer of Operation ‘A’ branch SFR Pengiran Haji Asmali bin Pengiran Haji Ahmad and Beribi Fire Station Commander ASFR Mohd Saifuddin bin Abdullah were on hand to oversee the mission.
The cause of the fire and cost of damages are under investigation.
The agency reminded the public to ensure that homes are equipped with fire extinguishers, fire blankets and battery-operated smoke detectors.
Any installation of wiring and electrical equipment should be conducted by qualified technicians and unused electrical appliances must be switched off before leaving the house.
Gas regulator should be unplugged or covered when unused, the FRD added.
